WINNER
Joshua

Name: Joshua Penley
Age: 25
Suburb: Mitchell Park
Single

The corporate trainer with RAA Insurance is an actor and drama teacher in his spare time, so has no problem with being in the public spotlight. He wowed the judges with a rendition of Oh What A Beautiful Morning to win his place. He is keen to push his own boundaries with challenges but also recognises this will put life in perspective.

"This will put a few of us in our place by reminding us we really are great apes we are part of the animal kingdom, just like our zoo neighbours the chimpanzees and gorillas".

Allister

Name: Allister Lyne
Age: 31
Suburb: Mile End
Single

The former professional beach volleyball player is used to public scrutiny from tournaments. He is also trying out at SASI as a rower and is a mechanical engineering student. Ive done some crazy things like buying a car over the internet sight unseen then flying to Perth to pick it up and drive it back.

"I'll teach the others some volleyball while we are in here. I dont know if this is a good place to be seen by girls it probably is".

Corinne

Name: Corinne Mensforth
Age: 24
Suburb: Adelaide
Has a partner, Peter, and cat Akua

Corinnes lifelong love of animals saw her study biology at university and she now does volunteer work at the zoo as well as working as a laboratory technician at Gribbles. She applied for the project because she saw it as an opportunity to raise awareness of the need for conservation of the great apes and was shocked when she was accepted.

"It will be a bit weird at first, Im sure. My main motivation was conservation I dont want a singing career or to appear on Neighbours as a result of it".

Eileen

Name: Eileen Draper
Age: 52
Suburb: Modbury Heights
Married to Kevin, five adult children

The human resources manager loves animals so much she has a tiger tattoo on her back. She is into adrenalin activities like sky diving and white water rafting, and saw the zoo idea as a way to have a holiday while educating people about the plight of apes. As a young woman she and a friend dressed up as men so they could gatecrash the men-only two-up school at Broken Hill.

"I've played sport, been in dramas and danced most of my life Ive got no problem being stared at".

Cheree

Name: Cheree Pertini
Age: 36
Suburb: Valley View
Lives with partner Steve and son Tom, 10

The human resources manager at Leisureco won her spot after juggling, singing and dancing to impress the judges. She had not told her family she had been picked when she spoke to the Sunday Mail.

"I dont know what their reaction will be, but they have always thought I belong in a zoo".

"My mother died young at age 50 and I believe I have to grasp life. Im also in a play for the first time, at the Fringe".

Robert

Name: Robert Williamson
Age: 67
Suburb: Itinerant grey nomad
Single, four adult children and nine grandchildren

The former engineering consultant-turned-tactile therapist now has time to enjoy interesting things in life. He reckons when something unusual comes along he now wants to be part of it, and has the time.

"I thought this was quite intriguing so wanted to be involved. Ive got no problem being stared at, especially by children it will be fun".

GROUP TWO
In the exhibit 8 - 14 January 2007

Lisa E

Name: Lisa
Age: 34
Suburb: Mallala
Husband Corrie and children, Chynna 10 and Daly 7

The university social work student is a self-confessed extrovert who is looking forward to constant public scrutiny. She had not told her family about her starring role in the zoo when she spoke to the Sunday Mail but is confident of their support.

"I always wanted to go on Survivor and this is the next best thing. I expect the public will keep us busy they will want to be entertained".

Zak

Name: Zak
Age: 26
Suburb: Forestville
Single

The TV production manager describes himself as clean and fussy and not big on the outdoors which is perhaps not the ideal formula for zoo life.

I think I'm having a quarter-life crisis it was a spur of the moment thing to apply and will be a great way to start the new year. Ill get in touch with my inner primate.

Lucas

Name: Lucas
Age: 20
Suburb: St Marys
Unmarried

His mother Sara pointed out the opportunity in the Sunday Mail and Lucas thought, why not? The outgoing waiter at Chifley on South Tce impressed the judges by walking on his hands. Life is short so you have to grab challenges that come your way.

"My girlfriend Joanne is in Europe until February, so this should keep me occupied".

Lee

Name: Lee
Age: 27 Suburb: Woodcroft
Married to Mark, son Ryan 2

Lee read about the project in the Sunday Mail and entered on the spur of the moment. She did work experience in the zoo in Year 12 and is now trying to convince her husband to be a stay-at-home dad for the week ... but it looks like her own mother will take care of Ryan.

"Ive now got a few qualms about it, but figure you might as well do a thousand crazy things while you are young so you have something to talk about when you are in the nursing home".

Steven

Name: Steven
Age: 42
Suburb: Morphett Vale
Married to Jo with girls Gemma 12, Jordin 9, Eryn 7, and Angel 4

The self-confessed stirrer with excellent chimpanzee noise skills was egged on by his girls into applying. He thrives on attention and has a link to the zoo, having helped build a road with the Army Reserve at Monarto. His workmates at Monroe Australia think it is hilarious, but Steve has found a serious side to the project.

"Ive been investigating issues great apes face and it has made me aware of things like the extent of the bush meat trade and habitat loss".

Michele

Name: Michele
Age: 42
Suburb: Broadview
Married to Jeff, daughter Jessica, 20, son Harvey 8

Her community-minded parents instilled an ethos of community service which has seen her work as a volunteer helper at the zoo for the past five years. She also is studying psychology at university.

"Between being a zoo volunteer and my psychology course it was a no-brainer this will combine the two areas I enjoy. I have always been keen to participate in things and seize opportunities, so this is just perfect".

GROUP THREE
In the exhibit 15 - 21 January 2007

Lisa B

Name: Lisa
Age: 26
Suburb: Parafield Gardens
Single, with two children

While most girls cut their hair after a break-up, Lisa decided to put herself into the Human Zoo.

"I became single two days before I heard about the zoo thing,'' she says. "It beats staying at home crying.''

Cathlin

Name: Cathlin
Age: 35
Suburb: Reynella
Married, two children

While her hubby would say she's a shopaholic, Cathy's real passion is photography - she recently won a competition for her photo of a lion at Monarto Zoological Park. Cathy's also no shrinking violet.

"I've never been one to hesitate when making a fool of myself. I couldn't care less,'' she says.

Blake

Name: Blake
Age: 23
Suburb: Craigmore
Single

Aussie blokes don't come much more typical than Blake - he likes fast cars, go-karts, motorbikes and camping. He also can't sit still, which should make for interesting viewing given he'll be locked in an enclosure for a week.

"When we have meetings at work, I fall asleep. If I'm not going 100 per cent, I'm asleep,'' he says.

Andrew

Name: Andrew
Age: 26
Suburb: Goodwood
Unmarried

Andrew's not too sure what he's got himself into.

"I'm still freaking out a bit,'' he laughs, "but excited too''. Apparently his hirsuteness was a big factor in applying.

"I'm really hairy, so I thought I'd fit in at the zoo no problems,'' he says.

Ian

Name: Ian
Age: 54
Suburb: Glenelg South
Married

His wife is against the idea but the Scotsman is determined to give the experience his all.

"I collect ticks,'' he explains, "I find things to do and this is a very big tick on that list, it's an incredible experience.'' He arrived in Australia in April.

Rebecca

Name: Rebecca
Age: 21
Suburb: Athelstone
Single

No, it's not The Advertiser sports columnist. Bec reckons she's "very loud and outgoing'' and likes to challenge others.

"Some people say I'm quite annoying and get on their nerves, but I think I get on pretty well with most people,'' she says.

GROUP FOUR
In the exhibit 22 - 28 January 2007

Ryan

Name: Ryan
Age: 21
Suburb: Semaphore
Single

His family is stoked he's in, which makes Ryan suspicious. "I think maybe they're really excited about the fact that I won't be annoying them for a week,'' he laughs. He sweet-talked the judges by presenting banana lollies during his interview. A single man, he is keeping an eye out for romance.

"I am hoping to pick up in the zoo, that's my main aim, yes,'' he jokes.

Annie

Name: Annie
Age: 45
Suburb: Brooklyn Park
Long-term partner, two children

She may officially be a secretary, but she's also in the middle of a social science degree at Adelaide University, is a hairdresser and an actress . . . all in her spare time. She reckons her endeavours on the stage will hold her in good stead in the Human Zoo.

"As a performer, I'm not afraid of being stared at,'' she says. Lucky.

Lisa P

Name: Lisa
Age: 32
Suburb: Croydon Park
Single

Used to living alone, Lisa's not sure how she'll go surrounded by people in the Human Zoo. But she's also hoping not to be alone too much longer - she's on the look-out for Mr Right. A Port supporter, dragon boat racer and former state Ten pin bowler, she's certainly not going to sit around idle in the enclosure.

"I'm just gonna let loose,'' she says, "I'm completely hyperactive.''

Jodie

Name: Jodie
Age: 34
Suburb: Morphett Vale
Unmarried

She brought a blow-up crocodile to her audition which she promptly wrestled. An adrenalin junkie, Jodie will certainly not be the one standing quietly in the corner.

"I'm loud and proud,'' she says.

Joe

Name: Joe
Age: 47
Suburb: Windsor Gardens
Single, two children

A fitness freak, Joe is into anything physical . . . cycling, running, karate, soccer - the man is buffed. The enclosed space shouldn't pose any difficulties, he once worked in Antarctica.

"It's a pretty isolated environment there,'' he says, "so I'm sure being stuck in an enclosure with five other people won't be a problem''.

Sam

Name: Sam
Age: 21
Suburb: Walkerville
Unmarried

He's already been labelled "the hot one'', but he assures us there will be no romance inside the Human Zoo.
He's a bit of a prankster, so the others better watch out.
