2007 Concept
Over the period of one month in January 2007, a group of humans
will be locked in an unused Adelaide Zoo primate exhibit for observation by
all. This brave group of volunteers will become the Human
Zoo.
The Human Zoo
This project aims to Create
awareness of the closeness of humans to their primate cousins, provide a
platform for research on animal behaviour and enrichment, raise awareness for
the conservation needs of primates in the wild, raise funds to build
Australia's largest chimpanzee exhibit at Monarto Zoo in South
Australia.
How
the Human Zoo works Application close 4th
December 2006. 100 chosen Humans will undertake auditions at Adelaide Zoo on
11th and 12th of December in the Primate exhibit in front of a judging panel:
public invited to come and watch. We are looking for outgoing fun people who
have a passion to help conservation.
Global Issues Until recent
times, 25 of Africa's countries had Chimpanzee populations within their
borders. Today, Chimpanzees are found in only 21 African countries The Bushmeat
crisis is the most significant immediate threat to the future of chimpanzee
populations in Africa. The scale of the illegal, commercial hunting (Bushmeat)
and trade now occurring in Africa, is unsustainable. This commercial-scale
trade threatens the survival of numerous species.
Lock-in Commences 2nd January 2007, with each group of 6 being locked in
for the period of one week.
Keeping track of the Humans Media partners Advertiser/Sunday mail, Channel 7 and MixFM will up
date the public daily on the progress of our Humans. Live streaming by Adam
Internet will be available on the internet on the Adelaide Now website, or
visitors can visit the humans at the Zoo between 9.30 and 5pm daily. Fridays
the Zoo will be open until 8pm.
Vote for your favourite Human Via an SMS competition
you will be able to vote for your favourite human, each vote will provide a
donation for conservation. Each week there will be one winner and a prize pack
will be awarded to the weekly winner, including a holiday and lots of
goodies.
Zoo-lopers Each weekend there will be a series of
Zoo-lopers (interlopers), surprise guests who will visit the Humans and cause a
bit of a stir!
Daily activities A comprehensive list of daily
tasks will be undertaken by the Humans; from behavioural enrichment activities
to vet checks, just to keep things interesting.
Super
Human The final weekend in January, the four weekly winners will come
together for the final lock in and voting will commence to find our first SUPER
HUMAN and Zoo ambassador. The Super Human prize pack will include an overseas
